Red Box Skinner

Cornwall based knifemaker Mick Wardell has sent us details of another one of his great little fixed blade knives. This one is a full tang construction Skinner/Hunter, featuring an 87mm drop point hollow ground blade made from 4mm ATS34 stainless steel. The blade is deep at 36mm from spine to edge at the widest point and it has been hand finished. The overall length of the knife is a surprising 201mm – although it doesn’t look that long. The bolster is nickel silver with a celtic cross/knot style of engraving. The handle scales are red stabilised box elder with black fibre liner and are fixed with nickel silver pins. There’s also a nickel silver lanyard tube towards the base of the handle.

As each knife is hand made by Mick, no two are exactly the same, but the price for a knife of similar specifications would be around £290, depending on the customer’s requirements.

Mick Wardell can make any knife from a small folder or a fixed blade hunter right up to a jungle expedition bolo – and anything in between, plain and functional, fancy and collectable, you name it… you can even have your name on it!
