Airgun silencers have been around for many years, but their use and effectiveness is still questioned in certain quarters, normally by individuals unfamiliar with the function and capability of modern hardware. Admittedly, a silencer has a less dramatic effect when fitted to a spring-powered airgun, as the noise from the gun’s internal mechanism will often trump even the best design of moderator. However, fit a silencer onto any pre-charged pneumatic, and the results can be stunning.

Umarex is a big player in the world of airguns, and their K3 NEO Silencer is a great option for anyone looking to suppress their favourite rifle, without messing up the balance. This neat little option is super compact, measuring just under 4.5” (140mm) in length and 1.25” in diameter (30mm). It is machined from high-grade aluminium and the exterior is matte black anodized, making it highly practical as a field tool, too.

Inside, the K3 NEO features baffles, which create three expansion chambers, and the unit is finely threaded to screw straight onto a barrel with ½” UNF spec. Tests have revealed the decibel-eating properties of the design, so the crack and report of the average PCP airgun will be reduced to a muffle in seconds. Ideal for .177 and .22 calibre airguns, and with a tapered end and great standard of finish, it’s a neat and reasonably priced piece of kit.
